Rwanda, also known as "Land of a thousand hills" is a very special country, with a painful history and a remarkable recovery story.

The genocide in 1994 was between the 2 ethnic groups that make for most of the population, the Tutsi and the Hutu. The rest of the population are Twa and are considered descendants of the pigmeys.

The remarkable part of this awful genocide is the amazing recovery of Rwanda that has made its way to being one of the most developed countries in Africa, mostly thanks to Paul Kagame who is still in office since after the genocide. Rwanda is being called "Singapore of Africa" due to its similar strict littering laws. Fun fact; once in every two weeks all of the citizens are required to spend a day cleaning, including the president!

Rwanda also enjoys some natural beauties such as Lake Kivu, and a long hiking trail along it, there are natural parks with Chimpanzees roaming wild, and the 3 volcanoes on the border with Uganda that sometimes have Gorillas, unless they decided to cross north.

Kigali, the capitol, will feel very developed and western and you can enjoy the local markets or a mall. You should also pay a visit to the Genocide Museum to learn more about this painful tragedy.
