Countries > Cameroon
Cameroon is often called “Africa in miniature”, but the useful move is to unpack the cliché: black- and white-sand coast, a volcano rising above the sea, Congo Basin rainforest, green highlands and northern savanna. Douala is a hot, humid, musical gateway; Yaoundé spreads over hills with museums, markets and a more measured administrative rhythm.
In the west, Mount Cameroon is a serious trek through forest, lava fields and exposed slopes, with weather that can change quickly. Limbe and Kribi add beaches, grilled fish and waterfalls dropping almost into the ocean. Dja and Lobéké belong to a vast forest ecosystem supporting gorillas, chimpanzees and forest elephants, but visits require conservation-led, professional arrangements.
Food could build the itinerary by itself: ndolé, grilled fish, plantain and different regional dishes at every turn. Languages and identities shift just as quickly. Parts of the Northwest, Southwest and Far North face violence and strong travel warnings, so never plan as if the whole country shares one situation. Choose a region using current information, work through local contacts and do not let one nickname replace an entire country.
