Start in colourful Dakar, where markets, galleries, live music and street food compete for your attention, then take the ferry to Gorée Island—beautiful, moving and inseparable from the painful history of the Atlantic slave trade.

Beyond the capital, Saint-Louis brings faded architecture and river light; Djoudj fills the wetlands with birds; Casamance slows everything down among beaches, villages and greenery; and Niokolo-Koba stretches into savanna and gallery forest. Distances are real and transport rewards patience, but that is part of the rhythm: a shared car, a plate of thieboudienne, a concert you did not plan and a conversation that quietly takes over the evening.
