Awra Amba - The Ethiopian Kibbutz

I dedicated a year to myself, to travel and explore Ethiopia and Northeast India (the Seven Sisters). Awra Amba - the Ethiopian Kibbutz

A little information: A small village located about 70 km north of Bahir Dar, and it is perhaps the most unique village in Ethiopia. What makes it so special? The village was established based on several principles and values that can be described in one simple word - Kibbutz. Everyone is equal, men and women work in the same jobs, there is no difference between religions, and the real reason there are whites and blacks is so that God finds it interesting. They believe that education is very important and should be invested in from an early age (a trivial concept in a Western country, but quite unique for a third-world country). In addition, human beings should live together with nature, not against it. A few days in Ethiopia before arriving at the village will be enough for the cleanliness in the village to stand out to you. Most of the village's income comes from a small but famous textile factory, and merchants come from all over Ethiopia to purchase scarves, bags, and blankets.

A tour of the kibbutz costs about 25 Birr per person. Accommodation on site is 100 Birr. Simple, delicious meals can be found on site, such as Bayenatu, pasta, and rice.
